How a model learns
A model starts with random weights, so its first predictions are nonsense. A loss function scores how wrong each one was, and the model adjusts its weights to make that score smaller. Repeat that over enough examples and the predictions get good.
The adjusting is done by gradient descent, which relies on backpropagation to assign the error to individual weights.
